Mrs. Debby Nagel

The last day of school was only hours old when my sisters, friends and I would start setting up our basement schoolroom using the leftover papers and books supplied by our grade school teachers. It was an inevitable career for me!

After graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor’s degree in Science, I began teaching “for real” at Assumption School. I then taught piano lessons for many years while staying at home with our young children. One of my most treasured piano students is now a colleague of mine! Later, I went back to Assumption and moved into the second grade position which opened up when another former student, then teacher, left to start her family.

I’ve spent fifteen years teaching kindergarten, first, and second grades. My favorite — it’s no secret — is second grade. Along with the fun, challenging curriculum (cursive writing, math regrouping), I’m privileged to teach students about Jesus’ unending forgiveness and love for us. I’ve prepared many children for the special sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.

My teaching philosophy is centered on our daily morning prayer:
Dear Jesus, thank you for this day.
Please help me to be kind and do my best today.
I teach in a classroom filled with acceptance and His love. I’m proud that anyone might see that when they come through our door!

My husband, Dave, and I are empty nesters with a son and daughter who graduated from college and a son still attending college. You can find us almost every evening at Farbach–Warner walking our little Shih-Tzu, Bella. Many of my family members have careers in education. As a matter of fact, my identical twin sister, Denise, teaches — what else — second grade!
